Chemist among detained terrorists aiming to wreak havoc in Tehran
TEHRAN – New details have been released on some of the 28 individuals who were arrested in connection to 30 foiled attacks on the Iranian capital of Tehran.
The Iranian intelligence ministry issued a statement on Sunday that explained in recent days intelligence security forces have arrested several individuals who were planning to carry out explosions in populous regions of Tehran.
The terrorists were detained in the provinces of Tehran, Alborz, and West Azerbaijan. The chief justice of West Azerbaijan has now come forward with more details on the individuals who remain in custody.
According to Naser Atabati, an individual who had studied chemistry and had collaborated with Daesh while being stationed in Syria and Iraq, was involved in the production and testing of bombs under the guidance of terrorist forces in some cities of West Azerbaijan province.
“The detainees, through coordinated efforts, were involved in the production of explosive devices, bombs, and suicide vests equipped with mobile timer detonators. Their aim was to carry out terrorist operations during a grand Arbaeen gathering in Tehran, the start of the school year, and other big occasions,” added the official.
Atabati explained that after thorough and extensive investigations, Iran’s intelligence forces managed to arrest 15 of the 28 terrorists in West Azerbaijan province.
It was previously revealed that all the detainees have a history of serving Daesh in Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Despite the individuals’ affiliation with the terror group, Israel was the main force behind the planned attacks, as the regime worked in close coordination with the Daesh terrorists to wreak insecurity inside Iran.
