TEHRAN - The foreign ministers of Iran and Iraq held talks on Monday night in New York on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly meeting.

In the course of their conversation, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian addressed subjects of common interest as well as Iraqi Kurdistan-related files.

Foreign Minister Hussein also noted that based on the security agreement, the Iraqi Kurdistan Region will not issue any threats against Iran.

The Iraqi government agreed to disarm and remove terrorist and separatist groups operating in the Iraqi Kurdistan region by September 19 as part of a security agreement Iran and Iraq reached in March.

It is notable that the Iranian armed forces have conducted several operations against separatist groups seeking to undermine the nation’s security and endanger its citizens.

Since the beginning of 2023, Tehran has sent to Iraq more than 70 documents proving the existence of armed terrorist groups in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

At the time, Iran submitted a letter to the UN Security Council outlining the rationale for its attacks on the terrorist groups and reiterating that it had used all other available means.
