TEHRAN – The Cinematheque of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) will screen British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s 2020 movie “Tenet” on Thursday.

A review session will be organized after a screening in the Nasseri Hall of the forum at 5 pm.

"Tenet" is a science fiction action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The movie follows the exploits of a nameless protagonist, a former CIA operative turned mercenary, as he tries to prevent World War III.

The protagonist is recruited by a mysterious organization called Tenet, which informs him that they have discovered a way to manipulate the flow of time. The protagonist has to master this technique, known as inversion, in order to take down a powerful Russian oligarch who is trying to end the world as we know it.

The film's narrative is a complex web of time loops, alternate realities, and high-tech espionage, with stunning visual effects and a mind-bending plot that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

"Tenet" is a breathtaking cinematic experience that showcases Christopher Nolan's brilliant mind and his unique ability to venture beyond conventional storylines.

The storyline unfolds in a non-linear fashion that demands the viewer's full attention, with stunning visuals and top-quality performances from an ensemble cast led by John David Washington. Washington's portrayal of the protagonist is a standout performance that highlights his natural talents as a leading man.

The film's concept of inversion, a technique that allows objects and people to move backward in time, is the lynchpin for its storyline. Nolan's complex script creates a cerebral and complicated world full of surprises and layers, juxtaposing the familiar with the unknown.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, "Tenet" has been praised for its ambitious creativity and its unique blend of action and sci-fi.

It has been nominated for numerous awards, including several technical categories such as Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Editing. The film has won several awards, including the Best Original Score at the Hollywood Critics Association Awards, and the Best Sound at the Satellite Awards for its impressive audio effects.

It has been nominated for Best Production Design and Best Cinematography by the Academy Awards for its outstanding visuals. It has also been nominated for Best Original Score at the BAFTA Awards.

Given the challenges faced by the film industry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, "Tenet" faced an uphill battle to achieve commercial success. Despite this challenge, the film grossed over $363 million worldwide, proving that its unique storyline and impressive visuals resonated with audiences globally.

Christopher Nolan is a highly acclaimed filmmaker known for his ability to create complex storylines that challenge and stimulate audiences' intellect. Nolan's films often showcase his love of non-linear narratives, with several timelines interwoven into one another.

He is also recognized for his immense pride in cinematic technique, employing traditional methods rather than relying solely on computer-generated imagery to create his stunning visuals.

Over the years, Nolan has directed numerous blockbusters, including “Dunkirk”, “Interstellar”, and the “Dark Knight Trilogy”, cementing his place as one of the most respected filmmakers of his generation. His creativity and innovation have earned him accolades, including nominations for the Academy Award for Best Director.
