Islamic Revolution Art Week honors top artists of the year
TEHRAN – Top artists of the year in various categories were announced on Friday evening on the closing day of the Islamic Revolution Art Week.
This year, the organizers of the event, which is organized by the Art Bureau of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization every year, selected one figure as the Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year for each of the categories of art. The previous editions picked only one artist from all categories.
The closing ceremony of the event was held after iftar, the evening meal for breaking the fast during Ramadan, as the stage director Ayyub Aqakhani was named artist of the year in the dramatic arts section.
He received the title for his book “War Trilogies” published by Sureh-Mehr.
Ali-Asghar Fahimifar was selected as the artist of the year in the research section, while Seyyed Abbas Mirhashemi won the title in the photography category.
Javad Khodai was picked as the architect of the year. He won the honor for the efforts he made to improve several architectural designs for the shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and urban planning in Mashhad, Mostafa Momeni-Rad, the director of the Architecture Department of the Art Bureau, said.
Songwriter Mohammad-Mehdi Sayyar received the title in the music category.
In the film section, four figures were selected as the Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year.
Director Mohsen Eslamzadeh was picked for his latest documentary “No One Is Waiting for You”.
The film is about Sepideh Alizadeh, the director of a center for homeless women in southern Tehran, and her assistant Mona who once was one of the women supported by the center. Now Mona and Sepideh want to track the two children she left 28 years ago, however, they don’t have any trace of them.
Mohammad Kheirandish won the title for his animated movie “Dolphin Boy”. It shows how Dolphin Snowball rescues a little boy in the waves, after which they carelessly grow up together, amusing the marine life with their funny tricks. But one day, the serenity of their joyful little world is destroyed by the evil Octopus.
Director Jalil Saman received the title for his popular TV series “The Antique”, which was produced in three seasons. The comic series revolves around the troubles facing Fariborz Baghbisheh, who unearths a large collection of ancient coins at his old paternal house.
Director Hossein Darabi was picked for his political drama “Henas”, which portrays the true story of the assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist who was shot dead by Mossad agents.
The Islamic Revolution Art Week is organized every year to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of documentarian Morteza Avini.
He was killed by a landmine in 1993 during his last trip to the former Iran-Iraq war zone in southwestern Iran while making a documentary about soldiers who were still listed as missing in action.
