Iran to send smaller team to 2022 Asian Games
TEHRAN – Head of Iran’s National Olympic Committee Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa has spoken of his intention to send the athletes who have more chance of winning medals in the 2022 Asian Games.
Iran came sixth in the 2018 Asian Games, winning 20 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze medals. A total of 378 athletes represented Iran in the Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Now, Khosravi Vafa has said that the more quality and less quantity will be their policy in Hangzhou.
“Iran will compete at the 2022 Asian Games with a smaller delegation but we send the athletes who have more chance of winning medals,” Khosravi Vafa said.
“The Iranian delegation is looking for a better place in the Games and the federations should help us to reach our goal,” he added.
“We will also have a special look at our women athletes in the 2022 Asian Games,” Khosravi Vafa stated.
The 19th Asian Games, also known as Hangzhou 2022, will be a multi-sport event celebrated in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.
Hangzhou will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games, after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
The Games will be held from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8, 2023.
