TEHRAN PAPERS:

Iran isolation project fails

December 21, 2022 - 22:57

TEHRAN-- The state-run Iran newspaper discussed the intention of Western authorities and their media outlets to present Iran as an isolated country through a psychological warfare campaign.

Disinformation campaigns by the foreign-based Persian-language TV channels, removal of the Islamic Republic from the UN Commission on the Status of Women, adoption of the human rights resolution against Iran coupled with the claim that China has abandoned its strategic relations with Tehran were some examples intended to purportedly introduce Iran as a pariah state.

However, America’s numerous messages to Iran to revive the JCPOA, Amir Abdollahian’s conversations with EU foreign policy chief Josep Burrell, the presence of the representative of Iran in the Baghdad conference in Jordan and his talks with the top officials of the regional countries coupled with Russia and China's support for Iran against the American unilateralist policies are the evidence that the Iran isolation project has failed, the newspaper analyzed.

Western countries, especially the Americans, were interested in giving a wide coverage of the false reports that the Islamic Republic has been isolated and made efforts to create insecurity in the country, but now, once again, they are forced to pay attention to diplomacy instead of offensive measures, the columnist concluded.

Kayhan: Zionists’ policy to undermine national economy

Kayhan referred to the American weekly newspaper Newsweek’s report, which had suggested that Israel should take the initiative and make the most out of recent protests in Iran as its biggest opportunity.

Unsettling the foreign currency market, hurting key industries, disclosing secret information of security forces, training riot groups and creating commotion over Iran’s nuclear program were proposed as tools that the Zionist regime can take advantage of.

These moves led the people to take all their savings out of banks, so the crisis in the financial market escalated that ultimately made the citizens angry with the government, Kayhan commented. It attributed all the recent incidents, including the currency crisis, to the Zionist regime.

Etemad: Slow pace of economic growth

Etemad, in an interview with an economist Morteza Afghah, addressed the decline in the GDP growth and wrote that a huge amount of capital has left the country and invested in other countries such as North Cyprus and Turkey.

The latest report of Iran's Statistical Center on the GDP growth along with oil indicates that Iran’s economic growth reached 3.3 percent in the first half of the current calendar year (March 2022-March 2023), which grew 5.6 percent in the same period last year. The GDP growth without oil has also decreased from 3.8 percent to 3.4 percent in the same period.

If the GDP has grown up to 3 percent, it is because of growth in the industries and mines sectors, which is due to the post-Corona conditions, Afghah told Etemad.

Arman-e Melli: Europeans’ great role in revival or death of JCPOA

America cannot come to a conclusion about returning to the JCPOA without the support of the Europeans because the Europeans are indirectly involved in the war in Ukraine and the U.S. does not want to ignore them, Arman-e Melli wrote in an analysis of the West’s decision on the JCPOA.

If negotiations start, Iran will be able to reduce international and regional pressures. This action is a proper diplomatic behavior, but the Westerners have taken strong stances against Iran, Ali Bigdeli, an international relations expert, wrote.

Iran should consider and implement a policy that pursues its interests first and foremost in various dimensions. Of course, the American view of the JCPOA and its revival is completely different, but as we saw, the Americans did not comment much on Iran’s internal issues and, like the Europeans, slapped successive sanctions on Iran under various pretexts, including human rights and alleged sale of drones to Russia which has started a war against Ukraine.

Of course, the U.S. cannot come to a conclusion about returning to the JCPOA without the support of the Europeans, he concluded.
