Economic sanctions are ineffective policy against Iran
In its editorial the pro-reform Sharq publication stated that Trump administration considered ‘maximum pressure’ as a way to bring about a change in Iran’s behavior, but the ‘resistance economy’ neutralized it.
It is necessary to avoid force, which is undoubtedly an abhorrent solution for Westerners. Neither the European Union nor the White House have any desire to engage in a conflict with Iran, which would lead to massive instability in the Middle East and the larger world. Diplomacy therefore remains the best option that can be achieved after years of negotiations by reviving the Vienna agreement, Sharq suggested.
Hamshahri: Stock market rises by $3b
Considerable rise in value of the stock market was a headline of Hamshahri, a publication affiliated to Municipality of Tehran.
A $3 billion rise made the stock market to reach around $175 billion, which can lead to further rises in the near future, the newspaper forecasted.
Another big headline of Hamshahri was ‘120 accused of Tehran air pollution’. It said “satellite images show that during the last 10 days of hazardous air quality, 120 fixed sources contributed to air pollution in Tehran.”
Although, mobile sources, especially vehicles, has always been faulted as the major cause of air pollution in the capital, the satellite images this time denied the major role of vehicles and instead the industrial towns in the west and south of Tehran were blamed.
Kayhan: Iran slapped America, Israel
Kayhan, reflecting the views of a segment of the conservative front, called the reformists as Israel’s forces who try to cover the strategic failure of the enemy in the recent hybrid war.
The United States, England, other Western governments, Israel and Saudi Arabia have been slapped as they were defeated in their hybrid war against Iran in the form of unrest; however, their forces (reformists) are striding to hide their strategic failure and to strengthen the separatist terrorists, Kahyan argued, citing Mohammad Khatami and Mohagheg Damad whose stances were in harmony with the United States, England, and Israel.
In the same situation, the so-called reformists were not willing to compensate for their betrayal by making accusations against the Islamic Republic and supported terrorist thugs and criminals. These traitors and servants of foreigners should stand trial, the newspaper’s chief editor suggested.
Vatan-e Emrooz: Human right violators removed Iran from CSW
The conservative Vatan-e Emrooz newspaper, in a note, condemned Iran’s removal from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) by human right violators.
Abuse has been America’s practice to exert political and diplomatic pressure on countries in line with its unilateral interests. But the shocking point is that a country has become the architect of this resolution which is one of the biggest human rights violators in the world; and contrary to the elegant showcase presented to the world about the women’s position, statistics reveal that the position of women in America is among the worst, the author wrote.
The author also considered America’s concern on Iranian women’s progress in different fields over the past 44 years, as well as Iran’s new ideas and initiatives regarding the position of women as the main reasons behind the exclusion of the country from the UN commission.
Etemad: Do you solve JCPOA and FATF or not?
The reformist Etemad newspaper, in its editorial, questioned the government that whether they solve the JCPOA and the FATF or not, and asked them to clearly declare in case they are unable to make a way out of it.
The government should realize that its approach to the country's economy and its abilities were not scientific and correct, and that reforms are needed. However, the government is still looking for excuses for not fulfilling its promises.
The realization of main promises requires stability in foreign policy and improvement of economic relations with the world. Considering the unsolved cases of the JCPOA and the FATF, fulfilling the promises remain impossible, Etemad wrote. It called on the government officials to take urgent actions in this regard or inform people of not being able to negotiate on these contracts.
Arman-e Melli also ran a story headlined ‘Revival of the JCPOA and the prospect of future hopes’, and wrote that reviving the JCPOA is a solution for Iran and that will help reduce, if not resolve, the economic woes.
The newspaper also suggested that the JCPOA will strengthen national currency and reduce the rising price of dollar in the short term, but in the long term, other steps are needed to strengthen national currency.
