TEHRAN –British ambassador to Iran Simon Shercliff was summoned to the Foreign Ministry over an attack on Tehran’s embassy in London by a violent group who desecrated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s flag.

The ministry reminded the British ambassador about his country’s responsibility in protecting diplomatic and consular centers based on the 1961 and 1963 Vienna conventions, saying British police have failed to prevent this “deplorable attack”.

The British ambassador expressed regret over the attack and said he will convey Iran’s protest to London. He also expressed hope that such incident would not happen in the future.
