TEHRAN - Thee 22nd Iran International Electricity Exhibition (IEE 2022) kicked off at Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds on Sunday.

Some 350 domestic companies and representatives from nine countries namely China, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and the Czech Republic have taken part in the current year’s exhibition that will run until November 23, IRIB reported.

The exhibition covers a variety of areas including lighting, wire and cable, electrical panels, electrical equipment, automation and instrumentation systems, and transmission lines.

This exposition aims to act as a comprehensive resource for the industry, its members, prospective business visitors, and customers by providing in-depth information about the industry and the latest trends influencing its progress.

Being attended by prominent electrical companies, equipment manufacturers, and vendors, the expo offers participants the opportunity to network, learn about new technologies and techniques, exchange ideas, and discuss industry trends.

All participants can benefit from great exposure to enhance their revenue channels and increase profits. This exhibition provides a fabulous opportunity to reach out to the maximum number of electrical professionals in Iran and the world.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, in addition to holding specialized meetings, press conferences will also be held with heads of specialized companies and subsidiaries of the Energy Ministry in attendance.

Two training workshops are also scheduled to be held on electricity consumption management and the challenges of the energy sector.

Boosting generation capacity

Energy Ministry officials have indicated they have plans to build more than 7 gigawatts (GW) of new electricity generation capacity in the calendar year that ends in March 2024.

“Based on forecasts and the (planned) execution of expansion projects, more than 7,000 megawatts of electricity will be added to the country’s generation capacity,” said Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian on Tuesday, Press TV reported.

An announcement by the deputy energy minister for electricity Homayoun Haeri indicated that the planned capacity expansion for the current calendar year is estimated to be 7.787 GW.

Haeri said Iran will build 3.026 GW of new thermal power plant capacity in the current year, adding that another 2.245 GW of capacity will be created in the existing power plants through boosting production processes or repairs.

The official said generation capacity at power plants run by industries will expand by 1.487 GW in the next calendar year, adding that renewables will account for 0.85 GW of new capacity while another 0.188 GW will come from small generators.

Officials estimate electricity usage in the country will exceed 70 GW in peak hours next summer. The country has more than 87 GW of power generation capacity although actual production is estimated to be lower at about 68 GW.
