Leader envoy meets Sunni clerics in Zahedan
TEHRAN – Mohammad Javad Hajj Ali Akbari, the head of the Policymaking Council of Prayer Leaders and representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, travelled on Sunday to Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchistan province.
He was dispatched to the province in his capacity as envoy from the office of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
In Zahedan, he met the prominent Sunni clerics, including Mowlawi Abdulhamid Islamail Zehi, the prayer leader of Zahedan's Makki Mosque.
Hajj Ali Akbari was set to meet the provincial governor and the families of the martyrs as well.
Sistan-Baluchistan province has been restive over the last weeks amid a nationwide unrest that engulfed Iran in the wake of the death of Mahsa Amini.
Dozens of people and security forces have lost their lives in the unrest in the province.
Hajj Ali Akbari was set to discuss with provincial figures the initiatives of Ayatollah Khamenei for resolving problems facing the southeastern border province.
According to the Leader’s office in the province, Hajj Ali Akbari and Mowlawi Abdulhamid exchanged views about the recent events. A number of Sunni scholars were present in the meeting.
