TEHRAN – Russian Vladimir Putin Special Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa has said Moscow is ready to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia to resolve their disputes, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

“We are in contact with our Saudi and Iranian friends and support resolution of disputes and misunderstanding through constructive talks,” Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik.

Iranian political and military officials say Saudi Arabia is fanning the flames of unrest in Iran through a disinformation campaign by the London-based “Iran International” funded by the Saudi kingdom.

Just in recent days, the Wall Street Journal claimed that Saudi Arabia has informed the United States of alleged imminent attack from Iran.

“Saudi Arabia has shared intelligence with the U.S. warning of an imminent attack from Iran on targets in the kingdom, putting the American military and others in the Middle East on an elevated alert level,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

It added, “In response to the warning, Saudi Arabia, the U.S. and several other neighboring states have raised the level of alert for their military forces.”

In response to such a claim, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said, “Such prejudiced reports by certain Western and Zionist circles are intended to create a ‘negative atmosphere’ against Iran and harm the ‘ongoing positive process’ with regional countries.”

Kanaani added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its policy of good neighborliness based on mutual respect within the framework of international principles and regulations and it will seriously continue to establish and promote stability and security in the region through constructive ties with neighbors.”

In its Tuesday report IRNA reported that Iranian intelligence services recently announced that had had discovered a cargo full of money and spy devices from Saudi Arabia for rioters in Iran.

Next Astana meeting on Syria to be held on Nov. 22-23

Bogdanov also said Russia, Iran and Turkey will meet on Syria on November 22-23 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Russia, Iran and Turkey are guarantor countries of the Astana talks on Syria that aim to broker a permanent peace deal by bringing conflicting sides together.

The special envoy also said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who visited Amman on November 3, spoke with the Jordanian sides about the participation of Jordan in the Astana meeting as an observer.

Bogdanov said this also applies to Iraq and Lebanon as Syria’s neighbors.

These countries are attentive to developments in Syria because they are dealing with refugees from Syria and border issues, the envoy stated.

Jordan's foreign minister said on November 3 that Jordan and Russia have agreed to step up coordination in tackling instability in southern Syria.

Ayman al Safadi was speaking after talks with Lavrov that centered on south Syria to "neutralize the potential dangers of instability" in the area, Reuters reported.

According to thenationalnews.com, Lavrov also said "more cooperation with Syria" was needed.

The 18th international conference on Syria was held in Astana on June 15-16.

Bogdanov also said in talks with Turkey some progress has been made about Russian flights to Syria.

“Our aviation officials are working on the issue and we as the Foreign Ministry seriously back these efforts to eliminate problems that sometime surface,” the Russian envoy remarked.
