Iran beat Azerbaijan to win Greco-Roman World Cup

TEHRAN – Iran claimed the title of the 2022 Greco-Roman World Cup on Sunday.

Iran and Azerbaijan were neck-to-neck with both winning five bouts. But the classification points gave Iran the win. Iran had claimed the World Cup in 2016 in the last time. Azerbaijan finished second for the second time in a row.

Iran had defeated Kyrgyzstan 8-2 and Turkey 6-4 in Pool B.

All-World Team finished in third place, while Turkey and Kyrgyzstan came fourth and fifth, respectively.

Serbia withdrew from the competition after a number of COVID-19 infections in the team.

The competition was held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
