Owj launches performance on influential religious women in Tehran
TEHRAN – The Owj Arts and Media Organization launched a theatrical performance on Thursday in Tehran’s Velayat Park, promoting the lifestyles adopted by influential religious female figures in history.
“Lady World” will be performed for 25 nights, and performances will be on the three nights each week that have been allocated exclusively to female audiences, producer Ali Esmaeili told the Persian service of MNA.
“The performance is about the influential women who led historic events from the beginning of the world,” Esmaeili said.
It begins with Eve’s birth and also recounts the life stories of Hagar, Prophet Abraham’s wife; Asiya, the wife of the Pharaoh of the Exodus and adoptive mother of Moses; the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ (AS); Kadijah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (S); Hazrat Fatima (SA); the daughter of the Prophet of Islam, Hazrat Zeinab (SA), the sister of Imam Hussein (AS); and Hazrat Masumeh (SA), the sister of Imam Reza (AS).
Esmaeili denied any connection between the unrest running in the country and the decision to organize the performance being directed by Hassan Bez.
“The production of the performance began three years ago as writing the script has taken time and energy,” he said.
“It took only seven months to make the setting for the performance and do the rehearsals to stage a performance that Iranian women deserve,” he added.
“Cultural and artistic activities have not recognized women and their key roles in important historic events as much as they deserve,” he noted.
On its poster, “Lady World” has called the performance a story for women and learning about them.
Owj, a major institution that produces revolutionary works in art and cinema, is supporting the performance with contributions from the Sima-ye Qoqnus Institute and the IRGC.
