Amir Abdollahian meets Iran’s consul general in Kapan

TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Thursday held a meeting with the consul general of Iran in Kapan to explore critical issues related to Iran-Armenia ties.

Morteza Abedin Varamin, Iran’s consul general in the Armenian city of Kapan, presented a report to the foreign minister about the measures taken for the opening of the consulate in the city over the past weeks and the official inauguration of the diplomatic mission by the foreign ministers of Iran and Armenia.

During the talks, the two sides exchanged views on facilitating the movements of heavy vehicles along the Norduz border crossing, resolving consular issues of Iranian nationals, promoting bilateral economic, commercial ties, developing cultural cooperation following the opening of the consulate, as well as expectations for a boost in the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Armenia.

The Iranian foreign minister emphasized the importance of ties with neighbors, giving the envoy the necessary guidelines for activating ties in different fields.

Iran officially inaugurated its consulate in Kapan last Saturday, opening a new chapter of ties between Tehran and Yerevan. 

Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, also met with Amir Abdollahian on Thursday. The ambassador briefed the foreign minister about Iran’s cooperation with the Lebanese government and different groups in the country with different political persuasions.
Amir Abdollahian also insisted on the importance of Tehran-Beirut ties and gave necessary recommendations for strengthening ties in different areas.

Iran’s ambassador to Beijing, Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh, also held a similar meeting on Thursday with Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian and presented a report to him about the activities of the Iranian embassy in China.

The foreign minister also pointed to the strategic relations between Iran and China, giving the necessary advices for tapping the potentials in each country for increasing ties.
Amir Abdollahian also congratulated the Chinese government and people for holding the 20the National Congress of the Communist Party and described the ties between the two countries as promising.
