TEHRAN – Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi has thanked Iran for trusting officials in Muscat and taking the humanitarian move by releasing Baqer Namazi, an Iranian-American national, from prison.

Al Busaidi made the remarks in telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Tuesday.

Namazi had been detained by Iran on espionage charges.

Iran’s human rights chief Kazem Gharibabadi announced on October 2 that Iran released Namazi for “humanitarian reasons”.

Foreign Minister al Busaidi also said Oman has always backed Tehran’s “insightful position” toward the region and the larger world.
