Iran's Railways Handles 15,000 Tons of Cargo Daily

AHVAZ, Khuzestan Province Islamic Republic of Iran Railways on average handles some 15,000 tons of cargo every day, announced the Director General of the Southern Zone of the Railways, Hamid Bashar-Khabbaz here Monday.
He added that the bulk of the cargo being handled by the Railways is privately owned.
In addition to the cargo, the Railways also transports about four million liters of fuel daily which are destined for export to other countries, the official further said.
The amount of cargo unloaded by the Railways of the southwestern Province of Khuzestan is the highest in the country, he said.
The official added that regional railways carried 5.340 million tons out of the total 30 million tons of cargo transported by train throughout the country since the beginning of the current Iranian year of 1379 (started March 20), Bashar-Khabbaz pointed out.
