TEHRAN – Iran’s police have seized 670 tons of narcotics over the past 11 months, the anti-narcotics police chief announced on Wednesday.

“Since the start of the [current Iranian] year, 670 tons of drugs have been busted all around Iran,” Mohammad Masoud Zahedian said, IRNA reported.

Zahedian added that “most of the seized drugs is opium.”

He said there’s been a two-percent rise in the number of detained individuals in connection with drug-trafficking.

He warned against a rise in traditional and modern drugs such as methamphetamine in neighboring Afghanistan.
