TEHRAN - Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Railways, Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed, visited Tehran on Tuesday for a three-day official visit. Minister Rashid is carrying messages from the Pakistani prime minister and president to the Iranian leadership.

On Tuesday afternoon, Rashid held a productive meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Muhammad Eslami.

Rashid will also meet President Rouhani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to deliver messages from Pakistan’s leadership.

During his meeting with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, several issues relating to bilateral cooperation in the field of railways between the two countries were discussed.

The upgrading of the Taftan-Quetta rail track as well as connection between Taftan and Mirjaveh were discussed. The Iranian side showed interest in collaborating with Pakistan in the field.

Federal Minister Rashid invited Iran to participate in the bidding process for the Taftan-Quetta Railway Sector (ML 2) to which the Iranians showed an interest.
The Iranian side also said it is improving its railway network from Zahedan to Mirjaveh.

Rashid was also given a detailed briefing on the Iranian rail network and technology by the Iranian Railway department.
