Iran punch ticket to 2019 FIBA World Cup with rout of Australia

TEHRAN - Iran's men's basketball team booked a spot in the 2019 FIBA World Cup with a win over Australia.

Team Melli defeated the Boomers 85-74 in Tehran’s Azadi Hall on Sunday.

Iran were paced by Behnam Yakhchali’s 21 points, and Mitch Creek  was Australia’s top scorer with 20 points.

Iran had lost to Australia 76-49 in the Melbourne in November.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams.

The tournament will be hosted in China and it will mark a new era for the competition as described.
