Iranian architects big winners at 2A architectural awards

TEHRAN – Iranian architects have been the big winners at the 2A Continental Architectural Award for Asia and Europe by scooping 28 of the 43 awards presented in 12 categories.

The winners were honored during a special ceremony held at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Barcelona, Spain on October 26.

A jury composed of Carme Pinós, Yoko Okuyama, Abbas Gharib, Willy Müller and Ali Basbous judged the projects at the architectural awards, which are presented by 2A, an architecture and art magazine that is published in Tehran.

All the prizes in the Old & New Asia section were presented to Iranian architects. Maneli Afshang and Mahfam Kushesh won first prize for the Rayzan Culture House.

Second prize was presented to Ara Aliabadi for the Aban Art Gallery while Reza Mafakher for Rahimzadeh Jewelry and Sara Khatibi for Braim Restaurant Project shared third prize.

Iranian architects were also overall winners in both Future Projects – Small Scale Architecture Asia and the Future Projects – Urban Asia categories.
 
In Small Scale Architecture Asia, Omid Mohammadi, Mohammad Ebrahim Tajik and Behruz Nakhaei won first prize for their collaboration on the Tiny House project. Moein Jalali stood second for the Palemos Villa 2. Third place was shared by Mohammad-Hassan Foruzanfar for Parsin House and Saman Sayar for Villa Vanush.

In Future Projects – Urban Asia, Mehdi Kambuzia took first place for Forgotten Spaces/Open Museum under the Mirdamad Bridge. Amir and Samaneh Qasempur won second prize for the Haqani Pedestrian Bridge and Hooman Balazadeh and Mohammad Khavarian received third award for the Chitgar Garden.

First prize in Asia Public went to Ensieh Khamseh and Arash Nasiri for the Nur-e Mobin Primary School. Other prizes in this category were presented to architects from India, Afghanistan and China.

Zahra Arman and Mostafa Omidbakhsh were the top winners for their joint project Orange Gallery in the Commercial - Retail, Stores, Warehouse – Asia section.

Iranian architects were also top winners in both sections of Interior Architecture Asia and Urban Projects, Rural Projects, Landscape & Public Spaces – Asia. 

Hamed Moradi Aleshtar won the award for Aviator Box in the Interior Architecture Asia category and Mahdieh Sadat Hedayati received the award for Déjà vu Pavilion in the Urban Projects, Rural Projects, Landscape & Public Spaces – Asia section.
