TEHRAN – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has pardoned or reduced the prison terms of 615 inmates convicted by various courts.

The Leader granted the clemency on the occasion of Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) and Eid al-Ghadeer upon a request by Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani, Press TV reported on Thursday.

The 10th day of the lunar Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah marks the Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated at the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Article 110 of the constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or commute the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the Judiciary chief.
