Iran volleyball march into Asiad semis
TEHRAN – Iran national volleyball team advanced to the semifinals round of the 2018 Asian Games on Sunday.
Team Melli overpowered China in straight sets (27-25, 25-20, 25-21) in the Games’ quarterfinals at the GOR Bulungan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Iran will play the winners of Chinese Taipei and Saudi Arabia on Aug. 30.
“Chinese team defended very well in the first set. We didn’t start well in the first set and they put us under pressure,” Iran coach Igor Kolakovic said in the post-match news conference.
“In the following sets we served well and earned a valuable victory over China. From now on, we have to think about our next match,” he added.
The 18th Asian Games stage 465 events out of 40 sports, among which 330 events from 32 sports will feature in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Games, attracting more than 10,000 athletes, will run through Sept. 2.
