Zarif in Kazakhstan for Caspian Sea summit

TEHRAN – Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Saturday announced that the foreign ministers of the five Caspian Sea littoral states, including Iran, are scheduled to take part in the fifth Caspian Sea summit in Kazakhstan on Sunday to adopt a convention on its legal status, IRIB reported.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Tehran at the head of a political and legal delegation for the Kazakh city of Aktau, where the two-day event is to start on Sunday.  

The countries’ foreign ministers last met in Moscow in December 2017, agreeing to the text of the convention. The convention is slated to be ratified during the summit which is to be attended by President Hassan Rouhani.
