TEHRAN – Ali Akbar Velayati, a top foreign policy adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, says Iran and Iraq have many common areas for expanding cooperation, adding the U.S. is the “common enemy” of the two nations.
Velayati made the remarks in a meeting with some Iraqi intellectuals on Tuesday, Mehr reported.
He touched upon some major common grounds which can encourage greater interaction between the two neighbors.
“First, we are neighbors with 1200 kilometer of common borders,” he remarked.
Secondly, Iran and Iraq share many commonalities in terms of religion, culture and history, noted the veteran politician who is also considered a historian.
