TEHRAN – Two Iranian border guards were killed on Tuesday night in clashes with an “armed group” on the border with the Iraqi Kurdistan, Iran’s border guard chief has announced.

Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei said the border guards confronted an armed group of about 20 people who were entering the Iranian territory in the border County Sardasht, West Azerbaijan Province, Mehr reported.

Rezaei added that after reinforcements were sent to the region, the armed group’s plot was foiled and they had to escape to the other side of the border.
