Afshani sworn in as Tehran mayor

Mohammad Ali Afshani was sworn in as Tehran mayor at the city council on Sunday.
Afshani, who served as governor general of Fars province and the deputy interior minister for development affairs, was elected by the councilors by securing 19 out of 21 votes on May 13.
Afshani succeeded Mohammad Ali Najafi who had handed in his resignation, six months after taking office, on March 14. Councilors finally accepted Najafi’s resignation on April 10. Najafi resigned on account of his newly diagnosed disease. Tehran Times / Maryam Kamyab
