TEHRAN – Britain’s ambassador to Tehran said on Sunday that he was “deeply saddened” after a number of people affiliated with an extremist group stormed Iran’s embassy in London.

In a Twitter message in Persian, Nicholas Hopton said the British government honors the Vienna Convention in guarding the diplomatic premises.

The security and safety of diplomats and diplomatic missions in the UK are of primary importance, he added.

Meanwhile, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, the spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said on Sunday that the committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday to examine the incident and the British government’s reaction to it.
