TEHRAN – The coastguard of southwestern province of Khuzestan has confiscated eight freighters carrying smuggled goods into Iran, says Khuzestan border guard commander.
“The freighters were carrying 15,000 blankets, more than 13,000 cans of beverages, 10,000 packets of chewing gum, more than 2,000 kg of tea, etc. that were seized in the Arvand River mouth,” General Abdollah Nazarpour was quoted as saying by IRNA on Monday.
The confiscated goods, loaded in littoral states of the Persian Gulf, are worth about $250,000, the general said.
Experts say that every $1b worth of smuggled goods costs 100,000 job losses.
