Director of British Museum visits Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

TEHRAN – The director of the British Museum, Hartwig Fischer, has visited the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA), the TMCA announced on Sunday.

He held talks with TMCA director Ali-Mohammad Zare’ who accompanied him on his visit to British sculptor Tony Cragg’s exhibition now underway at the museum.

Zare’ expressed his hope that the world would get the chance to see the artworks being kept at the TMCA, and the museum would find an opportunity to showcase its treasure trove, which is composed of masterpieces from the world’s august modern artists, at major art museums of the world.

Hartwig also praised the architecture of the TMCA and noted that the museum houses artworks from a wide variety of artistic styles, which every artist and art enthusiast wishes to see.

He said that Cragg’s exhibition in progress at the TMCA is one of most comprehensive showcases of the artist’s works ever organized.

Hartwig is a German art historian who was selected to helm the British Museum in April 2016. He is the first ever non-British director of the museum since 1866.
