Nazari Afshar announces retirement from Iran national volleyball team
Iranian outside hitter Farhad Nazari Afshar retired from national duty on the last day of the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup.
The 33-year-old player officially announced his retirement on Sunday in Osaka.
The tournament brought six teams in Nagoya and Osaka namely, Japan, Iran, the U.S., Brazil, Italy and France together from September 12 to 17.
Iran made history by winning their first ever medal after coming third in the tournament behind Brazil and Italy.
Nazari Afshar won the silver medal with Iran national team in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and claimed two AVC Cup gold medals in Nakhon Ratchasima (2008) and Urmia (2010).
“I think it’s time to go. I helped the team whenever they needed me. We have a new generation of players who can develop,” Nazari Afshar said.
