TEHRAN – Iran and Germany signed a joint statement on cooperation in rail transport, maritime and ports industries, the portal of Iranian Transport Ministry reported on Monday.

According to the report, the statement was signed in Germany by Iranian Minister of Transport Abbas Akhoundi and German Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Alexander Dobrindt during a meeting of Iran-Germany joint working group on rail, maritime and ports cooperation.

The Iranian minister was accompanied by his deputy, Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan, Managing Director of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Mohammad Saeidnejad as well as Saeid Mohammadzadeh, the head of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (known as RAI).

A handful of renowned German companies including Bombardier Inc., Roland Berger management consulting company and Siemens had also their representatives present in the meeting.

Speaking at the event, Dobrindt mentioned the two countries’ great potentials for cooperation saying, “Both sides are ready for expansion of mutual cooperation in transportation sector.”

Akhoundi for his part expressed satisfaction with the recent progresses in the two countries’ relations and touched upon some of the recent MOUs signed between the two countries including the Tehran-Mashhad railway signaling project signed with Siemens.
