TEHRAN – Iran and South Korea signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on technical cooperation on LNG ISO containers, Shana reported on Tuesday.

The MOU was signed on June 8 in South Korea, between a consortium of Korean companies and institutes headed by Oceanus EPCIC & Engineering Company and an Iranian consortium headed by National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).

According to Saeed Pakseresht, director of research and technology at NIGC, the two sides will cooperate on developing knowledge and technology of building ISO containers.

“A prototype is also planned to be built, tested and assessed during the four-year cooperation period,” Pakseresht said.

The official noted that at the end of the MOU’s period, the two parties will have a joint ownership over the outcomes.

As for the Korean side, the consortium is comprised of Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) as well as DongHwa Entec, Sung-IL Encare, Gs E&C, KoGas Tech and KGS companies.

The LNG Institute of Tehran University (ILNG), Iran’s Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) and some other companies comprise the Iranian part of the deal.

ISO containers are designed and optimized specifically for transporting Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) worldwide.
