Iranian movie star Bahram Radan among 2018 Olympic torchbearers
TEHRAN – Iranian movie star Bahram Radan will be one of the numerous torchbearers of the 2018 Olympics, which will be held in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang.
He was selected by the Iran branch of the Samsung Group that holds the sponsorship of the 2018 Olympics, the company has announced.
He has also been assigned to launch a campaign to select a number Iranians for the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic torch relay whose slogan is “Let Everyone Shine”.
“This is a great opportunity provided for Iranians to represent Iran in the Olympic torch relay,” Radan said in a press release.
“It’s a great honor that may only occur once in a lifetime,” he added.
In a video released by the Iran branch of Samsung, Radan says, “As David Beckham, Nelson Mandela, and Tom Cruise have previously been among the Olympics torchbearers, so everyone should be proud to do this.”
There will be 7,500 torchbearers after the torch is lit in Olympia, Greece on October 24. It will be handed over to the PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee on October 31, the organizers have announced.
The 101-day torch relay will begin on November 1 when the Olympic Flame will arrive in Incheon, Korea.
The final torchbearer will appear on February 9 to light the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, and the cauldron will shed light on the events of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games for 17 days.
