TEHRAN – Reformist MP Masoud Pezeshkian has signed up for the candidacy of Majlis speakership, local news outlets reported on Sunday.

MP Alireza Rahimi said the Omid (Hope) faction unanimously chose Pezeshkian as their candidate for the post, ISNA reported.

The faction made the decision after long talks with other parliamentary groups failed to make them agree on a jointly-backed candidate, he added.

The Majlis is going to vote on a new speaker on Wednesday.
