TEHRAN – Former chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili will not run for the next month’s presidential election, sources close to him say.

He does not plan to run for presidential post, the Tasnim news agency on Friday quoted sources as saying

The sources said his decision is intended to promote unity among members of the Popular Front of Islamic Revolution Forces, a principlist political group that has pledged to become the main rival for the incumbent president, Hassan Rouhani.

Jalili, who ran in the 2013 presidential election, has not yet commented on the issue.
