TEHRAN- Iran and Czech Republic agreed on signing a contract for the construction of a 20 megawatt waste-to-energy plant in the Iranian northern province of Gilan, the portal of Iranian Energy Ministry reported.

The agreement was made by Houshang Falahatian, the Iranian deputy energy minister, and Milan Šarapatka, the chairman of Czech Republic Parliament’s Energy Committee, in Tehran on Sunday.
The project of building the mentioned plant was agreed to be implemented based on a build–operate–transfer (BOT) contract.
The plant is estimated to generate electricity from 350 tons of garbage per day.
A waste-to-energy plant is a waste management facility that combusts wastes to produce electricity. Waste-to-energy generation is being increasingly looked at as a potential energy diversification strategy.
