Iran to commemorate Albania’s national poet Naim Frashëri
TEHRAN – Naim Frashëri (1846-1900) who is widely regarded as the national poet of Albania will be commemorated in Tehran during a meeting in October.
Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) will organize the meeting in collaboration with some Albanian cultural centers, ICRO official Hossein Tabatabai said in a session held at Tehran’s Book City Institute on Monday.
Tabatabai also said that the holding of the session entitled “Open Doors, Intercultural Journey between Iran and Albania” is an obvious sign of a new season of quite friendly relations between Iran and Albania.
Frashëri and his brothers, Sami and Abdyl, were among the most prominent figures of the Albanian National Awakening in the 19th century.
He is the author of over 20 books including “Inventions and Discoveries”, “Four Seasons”, “Dreams”, “Reader for Boys”, “The True Desire of Albanians” and “Flowers of the Summer”.
Book City Institute Deputy Director Ali-Asghar Mohammadkhani, who was also in attendance at the session, proposed that Albania organize discussions on Sadi, Hafez, Ferdowsi, Khayyam and other Iranian poets on a reciprocal basis.
Artan Puto, a professor of history at Tirana State University, Emil Lafe of the Albanian Academy of Sciences, and Arben Tafaj, the chairman of the Association of Tirana, also attended the session.
