9-month rail freight transport in Iran up 14% yr/yr

TEHRAN- Iran’s rail freight transport reached 30 million tons in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year ended on December 20, showing 14 percent increase year-on-year.
“Rail freight transport reached 21 billion ton-kilometers in the said nine months rising from 18 billion ton-kilometers in the same period in the preceding year,” IRIB quoted Ebrahim Mohammadi, a deputy head in Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran (RIRI), on Tuesday.
Total rail freight transport in the previous Iranian year (ended on March 19, 2016) stood at 35 million tons and the volume is predicted to hit 39 million tons by the end of the present calendar year (March 20, 2017), he added.
