TEHRAN Interior Minister Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari in a meeting here Monday with 20 MPs from the northeastern Province of Khorasan discussed the administrative division of the country's largest province, Khorasan.
The meeting was held following a letter addressed to President Mohammad Khatami by Majlis representatives from Khorasan and the presidential directive to the minister to follow up the case.
An MP, speaking to IRNA on condition of anonymity, said that Lari had stated that the parliamentary elections of February had delayed the division of Khorasan and a comprehensive plan for the division had not been ready.
Lari had earlier told the Fifth Majlis that division of Khorasan had been given the priority in the comprehensive state division plan, said the MP, adding that the plan was to be submitted to Majlis in the form of a bill in the Second Five-Year Economic Development Plan (1994-1999).
Lari had told the meeting that government has set three options for the division of the province, including the one which calls for dividing the province into three, the other one for four parts and the last one for five parts.
The minister will inform the government and the cabinet of the result of the meeting, said the MP.
