TEHRAN - Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, said on Thursday the humanitarian situation in Syria and Yemen is “catastrophic.”

During a meeting with Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Tehran, Araqchi urged the Red Cross to increase aids to the Syrian and Yemeni people.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to provide the Red Cross with help in humanitarian actions in the region,” he said.

Maurer said that the Red Cross is willing to cooperate with Iran in helping the people of regional countries, expressing hope that humanitarian aid to the regional countries would be increased.
