TEHRAN - Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, chairman of the Expediency Council, said on Tuesday that extremism is the reason behind any deviation from the right course.

During a meeting with a group of retired IRGC generals, Rafsanjani praised the wisdom of discourse of Imam Khomeini, describing him as a “unique character” in the history of Iran and Islam.

“Establishing Islam and fighting despotism and colonialism was among his goals and obviously East, West and regional reactionary countries, as institutions of colonialism and despotism, were against him [Imam Khomeini] and the Islamic Revolution,” Rafsanjani noted.
