Iran runner-up at AFC U-16 Championship

Iran finished in second place at the AFC U-16 Championship after losing to Iraq on penalty shootout on Sunday.

Iran was defeated against Iraq 4-3 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India.

Iran started the campaign with a 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia in Group A.

Abbas Chamanian’s boys drew 1-1 with the UAE and defeated host India 3-0 to qualify for quarters as the first team.

Iran humiliated Vietnam 5-0 and booked a place in semis and the FIFA U-17 World Cup as well.

Iran beat holder North Korea 6-5 on penalties in semi-final and lost to Iraq 4-3 in the final match.
