India's Essar Oil imports from Iran in H1 up 55% y/y

India’s Essar Oil Company’s crude imports from Iran rose by more than 55 percent in the first six months of 2016 compared to the same period last year.

Based on tanker arrival data obtained from trade sources and ship-tracking services on the Thomson Reuters terminal, the top Indian buyer of Iranian crude imported about 154,200 barrels of Iranian crude during the mentioned period which is 55,000 barrels more compared to the 99,200 barrels of 2015.

The data shows that Iran’s share of Essar’s total import has reached 44 percent during the first six months of 2016 while it was only 29 percent in the same period last year.

In June 2016 the company imported 178,100 barrels of crude oil from Iran, the data shows.
