Having just survived an abortive military coup, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended a different ceremony, where he honored a newly-married couple at the Presidential Complex. Reportedly, the bride and groom were among those cordoning off the presidential palace during the July-15 coup to defend democracy. The president presented a gold ring to the bride as a wedding gift and posed for a souvenir photo together with the couple and their family members.
