France welcomes fishery co-op with Iran: envoy

TEHRAN - French companies are ready to provide their all-out assistance in transferring new technology and equipment to Iran’s fishery industry, Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted French Ambassador to Tehran François Sénémaud as saying on Saturday.

According to IRNA, the ambassador made the remarks on the sidelines of Iran-France Fishery Forum, held at Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture building in Tehran.
The French ambassador noted that 16 French companies are visiting Iran to participate in the forum and discuss cooperation and investment in the country’s fisheries sphere. “We hope to expand our relations on the basis of the reached agreements,” he added.
Iran-France Fishery Forum was attended by Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture and head of Fisheries Organization Hassan Salehi, representatives of 16 French companies and a large number of Iranian firms in the field of fishery.
In the event, the head of the Iranian Fisheries Organization for his part expressed hope for increase in the volume of trade between the two countries’ fisheries sectors.
Salehi also noted that Iran is trying to develop its aquaculture production and in this regard the country aims to reach 820,000 tons of farmed fish in the next five years.
