TEHRAN - Behrooz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said on Monday that reconsidering the issue of Possible Military Dimension of Iran’s nuclear program is politically motivated.

His comments came as the Wall Street Journal published an article on Sunday and claimed that the International Atomic Energy Agency discovered uranium particles at Parchin in 2015.

Kamalvandi said that PMD was “political” and resolved through technical, legal and political actions during the nuclear talks.

The IAEA investigated the PMD and its “dossier is closed”, he added.

The Wall Street Journal reported, “Traces of man-made uranium were found at the Parchin facility, southeast of Tehran, by investigators from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, as part of an investigation tied to the landmark nuclear deal reached last July between Iran and global powers.”

An Iranian government spokesman on Saturday denied uranium had been found at Parchin and said a 2005 report put out by the IAEA found no “unusual activities” at the base, the WSJ reported.

In July 2015, Iran and the 5+1 group - the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany - finalized the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna and the deal took effect in January 2016.
