TEHRAN – The Iranian warships have the capability to be deployed in the Atlantic Ocean, Army Commander Ataollah Salehi declared on Monday. 

 

“Today, the Navy, in addition to the Gulf of Aden, the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, the north of the Indian Ocean, and the Red Sea, it also has the capability to be present in the Atlantic Ocean and this shows the might of the Islamic Iran and the complete preparedness of this force,” Salehi noted.

 

On February 13, the commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, said that Iranian naval fleet is capable of carrying out missions in every point in open seas, including the Atlantic Ocean. 

 

In September 2011, Sayyari said Iran plans to deploy naval vessels in the Atlantic Ocean near maritime borders of the United States. 

 

“As the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) have a (military) presence near our sea borders, we also plan to have a strong presence near the U.S. sea borders,” he said at the time.
