Darbandsar, a heaven for extreme skiers

altIran is a popular skiing destination in the Middle East, not only for the local skiers, but also for people from around the world. The things which have made skiing in Iran popular are the high altitude of its ski resorts, the long lasting skiing seasons, and the powdery snow that can be found there.

There are a lot of ski resorts in Iran, many of which have been located in the Alborz Mountains, thus near around Tehran. Among those ski resorts Dizin (the largest and the most popular), Shemshak, and Darbandsar are more easily accessible and have reliable facilities and equipment to hire. Other famous ski resorts in Iran are Pooladkaf, Ab-Ali, Sepidan, and Tochal.

Built in 1982, Darbandsar ski resort is one of the private slopes in Iran. It is located in Darbandsar Village, 60 kilometers north east of Tehran in the middle of Alborz Mountain Range near Mount Damavand.

This small resort is on the slopes of Mount Seechal and is one of the seven major ski resorts near the capital. After Shemshak, it is the second most challenging resort in the region.

You may ski from Dizin to Darbandsar, but you need to go back by car! This resort will satisfy you a lot, because it is not crowded even during the peak of the ski season.

It also offers some slopes for off-piste skiing and snowboarding for holidays and weekends, the area is a heaven for extreme skiers, a suitable place for acclimatization and practicing before attempting ski mountaineering in Mount Damavand.
Darbandsar resort is located in the tourist mountain zone of Rundbar-e Ghasran which includes some tourist zones such as Maygoon, Zagoon, Shemshak, Darbandsar, Fasham, and Oushan.
There is an icefall closed to Darbandsar village called Hamaloon icefall, which is an ideal place for ice climbing, so there are a lot to enjoy.

You can find a lot to do in Darbandsar; hiking, mountaineering, winter climbing, ice climbing, skiing, scrambling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, off-piste skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and  ski mountaineering.
