TEHRAN – Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri has dismissed as “ridiculous” a decision by the European Union to expand sanctions against Iranian officials. 

On October 10, the EU imposed sanctions against 29 Iranian people, extending the current list targeting individuals allegedly associated with human rights violations to 61. At a meeting in Luxembourg, EU foreign ministers agreed to impose asset freezes and travel bans on these officials. 

“I personally consider this decision by the European Union as a childish and ridiculous move,” Jazayeri told the Mehr News Agency.

Jazayeri, who himself is among sanctioned officials, said that the EU’s action should be condemned because it is in violation of human rights and principles of democracy. 

He also said Zionist-British-American lobbies are behind such actions and called on the Foreign Ministry to take a proper stance toward such moves.  

In addition, he said that inaction in the face of the “bankrupt British government” is tantamount to failure to safeguard the Iranian nation’s rights. 

“The time is ripe for dealing seriously with the British embassy in Tehran as the center of conspiracy and espionage,” he stated.
