Persepolis football team earned a late 2-1 victory over Malavan in Iran Professional League on Saturday.

Persepolis Honduran striker Jerry Bengtson found the back of the net from the penalty spot in the 7th minute.

Three minutes later, the referee awarded Malavan a penalty kick and Jalal Rafkhaei opened the goal.

In the dying moments of the match, unmarked Kamal Kamyabinia scored a dramatic winner to send Persepolis to the IPL second place.

“I congratulate my players since they won one of the most difficult matches of the season. I am happy because our players were fighting for victory against Malavan,” Persepolis coach Branko Ivankovic said in the post-match news conference.

Elsewhere, Naft defeated Padideh 2-1 thanks to two goals from Ali Ghorbani and Hamid Buhamdan.

On Sunday, Esteghlal has a chance to return to the top of the IPL in the match against Sepahan in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

Zob Ahan will also host Tractor Sazi in Isfahan’s Foolad Shahr Stadium.
